THE NEARNESS
Album
2018
When does nearness turn in to obsession?
The song "The Nearness of You" by Hoagy Carmichael from 1938 is at the center of this work by Simon Brinck. The seemingly warm and romantic song is throughout the piece transfigured and transformed into a plaintive, moonlit lament.
A singer is suddenly digitally and literally singing with the voice of the composer and in the end, as a grand finale, the guitar is singing with the voice of a choir, through a multi channel speaker system.
The music is both acoustic and electronic, composed and improvised, drawing inspiration from classical as well as non-classical music traditions.
